November 11, 2022
Talk, ViennaHydro 21st International Conference on Hydropower Plants, 09-11 November, Vienna, Austria
This presentation proposes a methodology based on time-history statistics and CFD numerical simulations to investigate the feasibility of integrating Hydraculi Short Circuit operation in pre-existing hydropower plants.
April 01, 2020
Seminar, Université libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium
Overview of the design solution incorporating state-of-the-art 1D to 3D preliminary design tools within the CFD and optimization framework.
October 12, 2019
Seminar, , Belen - Brazilia, Brazil
In a μ-PHES integrated into a smart grid, an experimental investigation is defined to tune the PAT prediction model developed and to provide a significant sample of comparison among the models available in the literature. Hence, in light of CFD analysis and further available data, this project proposes a PAT optimisation, driven by geometrical updates of the cutwater.
September 04, 2019
Talk, 38th IAHR World Congress, 1-6 September, Panama City, Panama
The characteristic curves of the pump in reverse mode are analysed defining the exploitable PAT working range. The use of variable speed pumping in PHES integrated into a smart grid aims to give flexibility in storing energy. The extraordinary adaptability recorded on the site in partial load until 30% endorses the coupling of the PAT and the variable speed driver
August 14, 2019
Talk, International Conference on Applied Energy, 12-15 August, Västerås, Sweden
The objective of this presentation is to analyze two different solutions to the energy demand of the Tucuruí Locks. A photovoltaic power station is compared to a hybrid power generation system composed of photovoltaic and small hydraulic turbines, with pumped storage. The alternatives are discussed technically and economically.
September 18, 2018
Talk, 29th IAHR Symposium on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems, 16-21 September, Kyoto, Japan
Chairman of the session RY203 IAHR2018-324 “Numerical Investigation of Tongue Effects on Pump Performance in Direct and Reverse Modes”,Hamed Alemi Arani (University of Tehran, Iran), Mohammad Fathi (University of Tehran, Iran), Mehrdad Raisee (University of Tehran, Iran), Seyed Ahmad Nourbakhsh (University of Tehran, Iran)
January 28, 2018
Talk, 1st LA-SDEWES, 28-31 January, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
In this talk emerges that PHES requires a calibrated evaluation of the hydraulic system performance taking into account energy loss prediction and the turbomachinery working condition. The extra cost applied for a variable speed driver is mitigated by the advantage of installing a PAT instead of an expensive customized micro hydraulic turbine.
February 03, 2017
Talk, HYPERBOLE-Conference, 2-3 February, Porto, Portugal
This talk presents a pilot project, for μ-PHES, located in Froyennes (Belgium). The facility and analysis methodology are discussed. The different components required to install and characterize such a setup are also presented.
July 27, 2016
Talk, 4th IAHR Europe Congress, 27-29 July, Liege, Belgium
PHES systems have all the features needed for being a suitable solution for the impelling requests of smart use of energy. This presentation gives an overview of the configurations and settings for PHES even in a non-conventional cases (e.g. small-hydro and UPSH) and enables further issues and challenges for the future.
April 19, 2016
Seminar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran
Seminar and open discussion on reversible hydraulic turbine and Deriaz pump-turbine type
